It is with a very heavy heart that I welcome you to this final edition of Tuez with Voudz. I know, I know, it’s hard to hold back the tears but, as they say, what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger so if anyone asks you why you’re weeping you can look at them straight in the eyes and and say “CHARACTER. DEVELOPMENT.”
Now normally, I welcome a good cry, you know the kind where your face scrunches up and you start thinking about everything in the world that makes you sad and all of a sudden it’s the memory of not having enough toothpaste this morning that sends you into a tailspin of blubbering buffoonery…well today I’m here to tell you that there’s no use crying over empty toothpaste. Instead, we should CEEEELLLEEBRATE GOOD TIMES (COME ON!) and go out with a bang on this Tuesday Appreciation Day.
To start the celebrations, I thought I would provide an account of some incidents that have coloured my last couple of days at Cassels.
- I deleted an entire folder from the internal server which contained work that I had done over the past eleven weeks. Now, when this happens, there are two questions you get asked “did you safely delete the file” to which my response was “…Pardon?”, thus prompting a second question “do you have a career backup plan?”. JUST KIDDING. But I did spend the following couple of hours white knuckled, giggling nervously at everything and everyone while the IT department worked tirelessly to retrieve my files. Thankfully, all colour has returned to my knuckles…my hair, however, is still as crazy and freaked out as always (thank you, humidity)
- I was asked to photocopy some cheques and one of the photocopies turned out slanted…the perfectionosis (see last post) required that I try again. I ripped the piece of paper in my hand and then froze, gripping the crumpled pieces as my heart plummeted to my feet whilst I tried to remember whether I had ripped the photocopied version or the ACTUAL certified cheque. For dramatic effect, I should mention that this was at 7:30 and the bank was twenty minutes away and closed at 8. Which one did I rip, you ask? I’ll give you a hint: I’m still employed and my heart has made its way back to its usual resting place.
Of course these incidents happened during my last week but if you can’t go out with a bang, why bother! On the bright side, almost ruining a closing and deleting an entire folder of work has given me the right to add a new title to my name: “Stephanie Stella Humble Rebel Without a Cause Voudouris, The Third” –YOU’RE RIGHT, there is only one of me, I was just making sure you’re paying attention.
Why are we celebrating these events my friends? Well first because the worst didn’t happen and if I can just manage not to completely destroy the building before I gracefully exit Friday I think we’ll all be okay; and second, because we can now laugh (hysterically) at these moments (sure I’m writing this post in the fetal position under my desk but HEY IT’S FUNNY RIGHT?). Additionally, discussing these antics with you, my loyal followers, has given me some more time before I have to bid adieu to all of you wonderful Voudrinators.
For the very first time (ever in the history of the world) I am at a loss for words (yes I know, I just spend the last ten minutes yammering, but given the amount I normally talk I am going to classify this word count as “speechless”). This blog has been the icing on the cake of my summer here at Cassels and has given me the opportunity to do two things I love: (1) talk and (2) connect with people. I hope this blog made you laugh, gave some good advice, and provided some food for thought (or at least made you crave real food). I leave this summer so thankful for the opportunities that working at the firm has provided me and equally as excited for the new adventures that await this year! I’ll sign off with this:
You and I will meet again
When we’re least expecting it
One day in some far off place
I will recognize your face
I won’t say goodbye my friend
For you and I will meet again
Until next time friends!!
